Community Falls Responder Service receives 6-month extension
Community Falls Responder Service for Non-Injurious Falls receives 6-month extension
Guildford and Waverley Health and Care Alliance is working in partnership with Mole Valley Life to provide Guildford and Waverley residents with a non-injurious falls response service.
If someone has a fall at home, and they have no pain or injury, a qualified Community Falls Responder will attend within 45 minutes (60 minutes in rural areas), to help safely lift the person back up, using specialist lifting equipment, making them safe and comfortable.
The Community Falls Responder will send a referral to the Urgent Community Response Team (UCR) for follow up the next day.
The service has been running since April 2023, initially with referrals from Care Line Pendant Alarm users. In September 2023, the Community Falls Responder service became part of the South East Coast Ambulance triage service.
Since November 2023, local residents have been given direct access to the Non-Injurious Falls Response Service, increasing the number of referrals, which has led to an extension in funds for the service until October 2024.
The feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive due to the quick response and use of innovative equipment to get them back on their feet safely.
Local residents using the service have also said they feel much more at ease as they know they do not need to call an ambulance, taking away the fear that they might end up getting taken to hospital.
There is hope that with continued success the Non-Injurious Falls Response Service can be extended for a longer period beyond 2024.
The Community Falls Responder service is available 7 days a week, 6am-9pm. Telephone: 0300 369 0590.
The criteria for the service is for falls to be 'non-injurious' and that the person who has fallen is able to weight bear. You must be registered with one of the following GP practices:
